I am directed by Lord Harlech of Lansdowne to
transmit to you, to be laid before a Private Secretary-
alone of His Excellency's Works, the accompanying copy
letter from Mr. Collinson, filed, with enclosures, drawing attention to the importance of re-
taining a plot of land now vacant, adjoining the
British Post Office at Tengyueh in order to give
space for the future expansion of the cable-station.
10. Secretary Chamberlain is anxious that the land
in question should not be disposed of until
the views of His Majesty's Minister at Peking have
been ascertained and considered. Lord Lansdowne
concurs in Mr. Chamberlain's opinion that no decision
should be taken pending Mr. E. A.'s report; and
I am also to ask that no sale of the ground may be
effected by the Secretary,
to the Office of Works.
